- As an introduction to Google Drive watch the Google Drive 2017 Tutorial - Quick Start video tutorial.
- Watch the Create a Google Doc 2017 video tutorial.
- To maintain consistency throughout the class and to allow you to find your own files more quickly, we will all use the same file folder structure in our Google Drives. Watch the video Google Drive Tutorial - Document Organization and then add the following sub-folders to your Digital Literacy folder on your Google Drive:
- 01 Online Organization
- 02 Digital Footprint
- 03 Presentations
- 04 College Career Readiness
- 05 Computer Science
- Since you will be using Google Apps and sharing documents frequently, watch the video Google Drive Tutorial - Sharing. As you go through this module, complete the Sharing Files Worksheet
- Then you need to "make a copy", rename, edit, share with anyone that has the link, and submit the Student Bio Doc Assignment using the Submission Form found on the side navigation bar. (never share or email a document to me; use the submission form)
- Working collaboratively (in groups) is becoming more and more important in our society. To help you practice collaborative learning you need to:
- Watch the video on file naming conventions.
- Review the Getting Organized articles (Getting Organized Using Folders and Getting Organized with Better File Names)
- Create a "private", shared document with several classmates that highlights all the Digital Literacy Topics that you've learned so far. When you are finished, use the Submission form to "turn in" your assignment.

- As more and more colleges and employers are using e-mail as their primary mode of communication, it is important to understand the basics of e-mail etiquette. To learn more you need to watch the 7 E-mail Etiquette Tips Video and review the How to Write a Formal E-mail article.
- Read this article about the the Importance of Organizational Skills in the Workplace
- Having read the article above, organize your Gmail account and Google Drive. Make sure read emails are stored in folders or archived when necessary and ensure your docs are stored in folders so they can be easily located.
- Compose a properly formatted, professional e-mail to your partner(cc: your teacher) that explains how being organized can help you in the workplace. Reply back to your partner (Reply to All) with compliments about and suggestions on how to improve their email
- short descriptive subject in initial caps
- formal greeting and closing
- proper spelling and grammar (punctuation, capitalization, etc...)

- In order to become an effective and organized student, it is imperative to learn how to read and use the Google Calendar. Watch this video for an introduction to the Google Calendar.
- Review your course calendars for important events and due dates.
- Create a personal Google calendar and add one or more events. Include items such as sporting events or club meetings, your birthday or other important life events.
- Watch this video on adding events to your calendar and add one or more Leyden calendar events to your calendar.
